| Comments | :: | We started flying at 1100, wind measured S 14mph on the hill, S 9mph recorded at Lyneham. Cruised ridge for about 3 hours till wind picked up too much (gusting 22 on hill, 12 at Lyneham). Without thermals, this hill seems to need 14mph to be able to maintain ridge height, but as wind increases you don't gain much more lift, but it obviously just gets more difficult to take off and land without risking a dragging. Must be the shallow shape of the hillside! PS, does anyone know what those rather inconveniant grass covered mounds, that litter the take off area, are?? |
