| Comments | :: | After a short XC from an 'unofficial' westerly site, Mark Jones and I decided everywhere else was blown out so ended up at Liddington. There we found Tim G packing up declaring the conditions not 100% safe. The wind seemed light enough and vaguely on the hill, so Mark and I flew for a while. There were some thermals coming through but they were very rough indeed; I almost committed over the back in a particularly strong up-down 'climb' but chickened out. Around 3.30 the wind went more westerly and slackened, and the sky was filling in and going showery. So we took off to fly down, only to be picked up and carried backwards along the hill by what seemed like a gust front, though the only cu-nims were some way away. Glad to both be down safely, we struggled to pack up in a howling gale and went home. Looks like the last XC day of the season. |
